The Court Is Calling

The moment you stopped playing organized basketball is not the moment the game stopped calling to you. It’s still there — in the way you instinctively box out in a grocery store line, in the way your feet remember footwork you haven’t used in fifteen years.

Jonathon Dues and Dave Holtzmuller know that feeling. Childhood friends from Eaton, Ohio, they built SwishHouseFit on a premise so simple it’s almost obvious: the most effective adult fitness program is the one that asks you to do the thing you already love.

25 Founding Members, One Old School Gym

They launched in 2017 with 25 founding members in an old school gym in Chicago. No venture capital. No slick branding. Just a court, a class, and the conviction that adult basketball fitness deserved a real product. It doesn’t matter how you play. All that matters is your sense of play.

What SwishHouseFit built is a certified curriculum, not just a class. The signature 60-minute session blends high-intensity interval training with basketball fundamentals: every drill is both a workout and a skill. It was co-developed with Trent Salo, VP of Player Health and Performance for the Charlotte Hornets. Chicago is led by Kristin Heidloff, a Georgetown standout and Illinois High School Hall of Famer. The coaches are players. The players are members. The line is not a line.

Linnae Harper, the West Loop, and a Member Who Came Back

SwishHouseFit runs asset-light, plugging into existing facilities through Community Gym Partnerships. The Chicago flagship shares space with Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in the West Loop. WNBA player and USA 3×3 World Champion Linnae Harper — who grew up on the Southside and came home to play for the Sky — is one of the coaches.

One member described it this way: “In 2014, I was on a very destructive, unhealthy path. I was in a very dark place mentally. Unsurprisingly, I was a mess physically too. Basketball became the sanctuary.” SwishHouseFit keeps hearing some version of this from the people who walk in the door.

The Court Is Calling

Forty-plus investors and advisors have signed on — Arne Duncan, former U.S. Secretary of Education; David Meltzer, CEO of Sports1 Marketing; Jordan Cornette of NBC Sports. The list is serious. The product is more serious.

Chicago and Brooklyn are running. Raleigh-Durham and Boston are loading. The court is calling. It was always going to call.
